Strengths are the things that we do well and find energizing, they are found in every person.
My current top strength is Adventure which says:
People with a strength in Adventure relish the risk of the unusual or the untried. They look toward the experiences that are on the edge of, or outside, their comfort zone. They love to stretch themselves.
I can relate to this "diagnosis" very deeply. It has always excited me to stick my neck out and explore new things. Some of my other strengths are curiosity
Strengths can be interpersonal, like Rapport Builder, they can be about how we think, like Creativity or how we are motivated, like Drive. They can also be about who we are as people, what we stand for, or what we believe – like Gratitude or Humility.
When we use our strengths, we are happier, more confident, and experience more vitality and positive emotions. We are less stressed, better at achieving our goals, perform better, and are more engaged.
Selecting from strengths is naturally bias-free because our strengths are inherent and authentic to who we are.
Use this time as an opportunity to take another look at your CV or your LinkedIn profile and bring it up to date. Consider the strengths and the skills that you really want to be known for as you reset that go beyond the typical performance goals or academic achievements.
This could be something environmental, humanitarian or community-focused.
Ask others for feedback on what they value about you the most and why. What strengths do they see you use?
Complete a Strengths Profile that accurately identifies your strengths, your potential, learned behaviors, and weaknesses and filter your findings into your CV or Cover Letter.
Using your strengths gives you energy. Try to balance the ‘should do’ tasks with activities you enjoy, no matter how small or productive, to help you keep up your momentum and moral.
